Summary : In a prospective study, the use of the Objective Pain Scale has enabled us to evaluate the importance of pain manifestations induced by strabismus surgery. This study has shown that these were absent or minor for the large majority of patients operated, demonstrating the efficacity of the analgesic protocol in use. A personnal variable, the age of the subject and the number of basic procedures did have statistically significant effect. Pain is inversely proportionnato the age of the patient during the initial part of the period of surveillance. This study emphasises the efficacity of this analgesic protocol and the need of a specialized approach to pain management for young children.

Keywords : Strabismus surgery, Objective Pain Scale, analgesic protocol
