Résumé : Les progrès de la recherche et la connaissance des besoins de l'enfant ont induit une formation spécifique des orthoptistes. La précocité de toute prise en charge s'avère très importante. Désormais, de nombreux facteurs liés au développement et aux capacités propres à chaque enfant doivent être pris en compte. Il y a de ce fait, avec la rééducation de la vision fonctionnelle, une modification des objectifs et des modalités de la rééducation orthoptique traditionnelle, qui élargit dès lors son champ d'action dans un but d'intégration sociale.

Summary : Progress in research and recognition of the needs of children have led to train specificly the orthoptits to low vision knowledges. Taking charge of such children, as early as possible now established as a prime necessity. A number of factors related to the development and the capabilities of each child should, from here on, be considered. Therefore, with visual rehabilitation training, it exists a modification of the usual orthoptic objectives and methods wich enhance the orthoptits' sphere of activity to achieve the goal of social integration.
